One of the “issues” that arises in
becoming a
detached witness is that we often find it necessary to detach
from what we feel to understand exactly what we are feeling. In
detaching from what we feel to observe the feelings and their
origins, we seem to lose much of the enjoyment of physical life.
This is completely true. One of the primary
reasons individuals incarnate as human being is to have the
experience of feeling. The joy of the human physical experience is
to be in feeling, feeling the passion for life, feeling the passion
for living and feeling the fulness of being. In fact as discussed in
the various topics, “Fulness of Being,” “Inner Satisfaction,“
”Internal Compass,” “Calibrating the Internal Compass,” “What Serves
One’s Being,” “A life Worth Living,” and the like, a feeling of
growth and expansion is key. Yet, as a
detached witness we seem to detach from the very thing we need
to be experiencing.
It is here the separate concepts and characteristic of energy and
consciousness become very important. If we are not careful in how we
use these characteristics, we will create a deep separation within
our being. It is this issue which has given rise to the whole
beliefs systems around the human being a body with a spirit or a
spirit having a physical experience in a body and that Physical
Creation is separate from, and different from the world of the
unseen and the world of the spiritual.
What needs to be realized is that pure awareness has no feeling. It
is aware. Feeling arises from a flow of energy and we feel when we
are
out of mind.
Pure awareness is aware of what it feels but it is not attached to
what it feel. Feeling is what gives rise to awareness. It is feeling
the flow of energy which awaken awareness. The awareness arises when
we detach it from the body and energy aspects. Awareness awakens
when it feels. But the awareness must detach from what if feels for
the awareness to become the pure awareness. Otherwise, the awareness
is absorbed in, and by, the feeling but unaware it is not the
feeling.
To become a
detached witness is to become fully
localized in the consciousness aspect of
energy consciousness. To be totally lost in what we feel is to
be totally localized in the energy aspect of energy consciousness.
The issue is to learn to be free to be in both awareness and feeling
and to dance between the two. The problem is to become attached to
either one. If we are attached to the awareness, we never experience
the true joys of creation/Creation, in essence, denying Creation. To
be totally attached to what we feel, we become lost in
creation/Creation and, in essence, end up becoming a victim and only
be able to response to what we feel. We are unable to become the
conscious creator of our experiences.
The real issue is to learn to
dance between energy and consciousness. When we learn to dance
between energy and consciousness we can then realize we can
experience feeling with another, in com-passion, and wholeness or
experience another without compassion in separation. The difference
between feeling with another in compassion and without compassion is
the desire to share what the other feels and the desire to be in
feeling with the other.
The origins of the word compassion comes from the Latin, com
“together” and pati “to feel, suffer.” to be unaware of what another
feels is to be in separation. To be aware of what another feels and
allowing onself to feel what the other feels is to be in feeling
with the other or in compassion. However, unless we can become
detached, we will become lost in the other’s feeling and think what
we feel is our feeling. Without becoming detached from what we feel,
we will be unable to see the origin of what we feel.
Creation is about consciously holding an intention and then
surrendering to the flow of energy that gives rise to the desired
experience without the interference of
mind. This is why so much of our creativity is done
subconsciously. It is become mind keeps interfering and we have not
yet learned to control our mind.
To share an experience with another is to hold a common intention
and then access and surrender to the flow of energy which brings the
individuals together into a shared experience. To recognize this
fact and be open to what one feels is to be in compassion with the
other sharing the experience as each is able to experience. To not
recognized this fact is to be with another but not in compassion but
in separation.
Colloquially, we see compassion as feeling pity or having the desire
to remove someone’s pain or suffering. We see the other in pain and
desire to remove their pain. Such action comes from the
mind and is often not true compassion. When one is in compassion
there only our pain. The pain we feel will not be the same pain the
other feels for each experience of pain is unique to the individual.
But we know it is a shared pain. Our pain is alleviated as their
pain is alleviated. Similarly our joy is their joy. It is not that
we feel joyful because they are in joy. Rather we share their joy
and their joy is our joy.
It is difficult to fully express in words what we feel in true
compassion when we share what another feels and what we call compass
when we separate from our
mind. The main difference is how we approach the other. When we
not separate from the mind’s idea of being compassionate, we do what
we think we need to do to alleviate the
pain and suffering we see. When we separate from the mind we
experience true compassion and we can feel the pain of another we
can begin to understand what is giving rise to their pain and, in
turn, our pain. We end up acting in ways mind cannot always
understand. The actions we take based on what the mind thinks tends
to be shallow and don’t often go to the depth of the issue. Actions
from true compassion go deep and tend to be focused toward the root
of the issue. Actions of the mind tend to have a flavor of
obligation and/or satisfy what others desire to seen or expect from
us. Actions from true compassion often take us on the
left hand path and cause us to step
out of mind
to become other than we normally or routinely would be lead to do.
